Heel prick

In the first week after the birth of your child, a few drops of blood are taken from the heel of your baby. This blood is tested in a laboratory for a number of rare hereditary diseases. The diseases cannot be cured. If they are detected in time, they can be treated with, for example, medicines or a diet.

It is therefore very important for the health of your child that you cooperate with the heel prick. The obstetrician comes to your house for the heel prick. When you register with the municipality, you will receive information about the heel prick and the hearing test. For more information, go to www.rivm.nl/hielprik.
